Jordan's Christmas Card

Jordan made Christmas cards for his teachers and his bus driver. Here is the one to his bus driver.

All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth

Jordan was gladiator battling with inflatable pugle sticks at Mikayla's party. A kid came up to me and said "Are you Jordan's Mom?" I said, "Yes". He said, "Jordan lost his teeth and they are bleeding." (Yes, he was wearing a helmet!)

So I went to check it out. Sure enough, Jordan had a missing front tooth and the other one was pretty loose. I wasn't worried about it. They're just baby teeth. They were going to fall out anyway. I just didn't want Jordan to swallow the loose tooth. So, I offered to pull it out. He would have none of that! He wiggled and wiggled that thing until it finally came out (the next day). So there it is. Jordan will be missing his two front teeth for Christmas.

The funny thing is, when he lost his bottom two teeth, a third bottom tooth was a little loose. I know cause I wiggled it myself. So when I checked his other teeth to make sure he didn't have more loose teeth, that same tooth that was once wiggling, wasn't budging. Hmmm. Bizarre.

So I asked Jordan, "Wasn't this tooth loose before?". "Yes", he replied. "But I've eaten a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches since then. I think the sticky peanut butter helped keep the tooth in."

Interesting thought. I don't think that's the case, but I don't really have an alternative plausible idea.

Jordan's First Missed Day of School

Jordan was so sick this weekend. I had already decided that I would let him wake up on his own and then would ask if he would like to go to school. So that's what I did. Jordan seemed tired and said he didn't want to go to school today. I didn't push it. It's ok. For me, attendance isn't a huge deal - as long as you do you work and do your work well. (Darin and I differ on this a little bit).

Jordan seemed pretty tired in the morning, opting to lay on the couch and hang out. Then he started to play like his usual self. At lunch, I asked him "Jordan, were you still feeling sick this morning or did you just not feel like going to school today?"

His eyes went to the up and left position. He bit his lip. You could seriously see those wheels a turning upstairs. He carefully picked his words "What happens if I lie?"

I said that the most important thing was that he tells the truth. When he tells the truth, he may still get in trouble, but he will be in less trouble than if he lies. And mommies and daddies usually find out when kids lie.

He pondered again...."What happens if I lied before but tell the truth now?"

I laughed and said "The most important thing is that you tell me the truth now." my voice turning more stern, "Were you still feeling sick or did you just not feel like going to school?"

Timidly he replied, "I was just still feeling a little tired - not sick. But I feel good now. I want to go to school tomorrow. Sorry I lied before."

I gave him a hug and wasn't sure what to say. See my question to him was "Do you feel like going to school today?" So when he responded "No." He didn't really lie to me. I didn't ask him if he felt sick. But...I didn't really want to teach him that nuance just yet. He'll figure it out soon enough and I'm sure I'll be the one duped soon.

Mommie Faux Pas

So Jordan almost missed the bus today! Why? Not because he didn't wake up on time. Not because he didn't eat his breakfast quickly enough. Not because he took his time getting dressed. Nope, Jordan almost missed the bus because I gave him Mikayla's pants to put on by accident. We were already outside on the sidewalk walking to his bus stop. I glanced down and something at the bottom of his pantleg caught my eye. I thought one of our foamy craft stickers managed to get stuck on his pants. Upon closer inspection, this is what I found:

A cute little embroidered girly detail. UGHH! Luckily Darin was still home. He began to help take off Jordan's shoes and pants while I tracked down his pants. Then together we redressed Jordan. I think that was record kid dressing time! We hopped in Darin's car and he drove us to the bus stop. Just as Jordan opened the car door, the bus arrived. I gave him a quick kiss and told him to have a good day. He gave his typical smile and wave as he got on the bus. Whew! Minor disaster averted.

The Kindergarten Smile?!

I've noticed that kids around Kindergarten age plaster this kinda smile on their faces (see U6 soccer picture below). And I know a school picture wouldn't be a school picture if it was perfect. But...in the age of DIGITAL CAMERAS, how does this happen? We personally own a camera that if you hold the button down, it will keep snapping a zillion pictures. At least one of them is bound to be really good. Why can't the school photographers do the same? I mean really? It looks like Jordan is about to have a really nice smile in about 4 seconds. Just another example of "I'm just here to collect a pay check and go home." A little pride people...a little pride.

Don't get me wrong. This picture of Jordan still speaks volumes. He has shed almost all of his little kid features and is looking more and more grown up. *sniffle* And my isn't he handsome -if I do say so myself? Just could have captured his nice, broad smile a little better.

Proud Soccer Mom

We just wrapped up soccer for the fall season. Here are the kids' pictures from this season:

Mikayla dominated in her U5 league. She had 7 goals in one game! It's fun to see her getting aggressive on the field - pushing, shoving, going after the ball...no matter who has it. Now we just have to work on the "team work" aspects, like not taking the ball away from her teammates.

Jordan was in the U6 league. This league was much more competitive than U5. It was fun watching these kids develop. They are starting to really build on the fundamentals of dribbling, passing, trapping & shooting. Jordan played well and had a lot of fun. He couldn't stop laughing on the field because he was so happy. Now if we can focus that energy next season...the possibilites are endless!

You're supposed to check out a book?

Jordan’s first trip to the school library was great. He was able to see all of the wonderful books at his disposal and learned the process of checking out a book. When Jordan got home from school that day, I expected to find a library book in his backpack. I looked through every pocket (my there are a lot) to no avail. I asked Jordan where his book was. He said “Mom, the librarian said the books have to be back at a certain time and I was worried I would forget it”. He's such a conscientious little boy. So I reassured him that I would help him remember to take his book back on time. Hopefully next library day I will find a book in his backpack.
